The Home office has added further countries to the pre-entry Tuberculosis screening programme. Applicants from these countries, applying to come to the UK for more than 6 months will be required to produce a valid medical certificate confirming they have undergone the screening and the disease was not present.
The additional countries are listed below;
- Hong Kong
- Sierra Leone
Please note this list is by no means comprehensive and is often updated by the Home Office.
The Home Office plan to roll the screening programme out over 67 countries with a high incidence of Tuberculosis. Their aim is to tackle the rise of Tuberculosis which currently affects a third of the world’s population, as well as cutting costs for UK tax payer by £40 million over 10 years.
If you are from one of the countries requiring pre-entry screening and submit an application without a valid medical certificate, your application will not be accepted.
