The Certificate Of Approval (COA) scheme which allows migrants inside the UK to get married or register a civil partnership is due to close in spring 2011.
The government has deemed that the COA is no longer an effective measure for preventing sham marriages, after changes have been employed through High Court rulings.
Presently the COA is still required for migrants who wish to marry or register a civil relationship in the UK. COA applications are not applicable to marriages that take place within the Anglican Church.
