Biometric Residence Permits will be replacing passport visa documentation.
From 29 February 2012, all applicants in the UK will be required to obtain a Biometric Residence Permit if they are applying to stay here for longer than 6 months.
These Biometric cards contain a small chip which will contain the holder’s unique biometric details (fingerprints, digital facial image). The card will also display a photo and biographical information on the face of the document and details of entitlements, such as any right to work and/or access public funds.
In order to obtain a BRP, applicants will need to enrol their biometric information either at a Public Enquiry Office or a UK Border Agency listed Post-Office.
